What MC authority is
Motor carrier (MC) authority is operating authority from the FMCSA that allows a company to haul regulated freight for hire across state lines. It is separate from your USDOT number.
What goes with it
Insurance filing
Your insurance company must file proof of required coverage for your authority to become active.
BOC-3
A designation of process agents, generally required with your authority.
UCR
The annual Unified Carrier Registration for carriers that operate in interstate commerce.
Getting the order right
Authority, insurance and filings depend on each other. Because we handle insurance as well as the filings, we can line them up so you are not waiting on one piece to start the next.
Government and third-party fees are separate from our service fees. Approvals are decided by the agencies.
Questions
Do I need MC authority?
If you haul regulated freight for hire across state lines, generally yes. If you lease on to a carrier that holds the authority, you may not. We will help you work out which applies.
