What general liability covers
General liability helps pay when your business is blamed for injuring someone or damaging their property. It typically covers a customer hurt at your location, damage your work causes at a client’s property, and certain advertising claims. It also helps with legal defense costs for covered claims.
What it does not cover
It does not cover your employees’ injuries, your vehicles or your own property. Those need workers’ compensation, commercial auto and property coverage. We tell you plainly where one policy stops and the next begins.
Who needs it
Colorado does not require general liability by law for most businesses. In practice you will often need it anyway. Landlords ask for it before you sign a lease, clients ask for it before you start a job, and many licenses and contracts require a certificate.
What affects your price
- The type of work you do
- Your revenue and payroll
- Your location and the limits you choose
- Your claims history
A quote is not coverage. Coverage begins only when confirmed in writing by the insurance company. Availability and pricing depend on the carrier and your situation.
Questions
Do trucking companies need general liability?
Often yes. Truck liability covers accidents involving the truck. General liability covers other risks, such as a delivery to the wrong address or an injury at your yard. Some brokers ask for both.
How quickly can I get a certificate of insurance?
Once coverage is bound, we can usually issue certificates quickly. Tell us who needs to be listed on it.
Can I combine it with other coverage?
Many small businesses can bundle general liability with property coverage in one policy. We will tell you whether that fits your business.
I work from home. Do I still need it?
Homeowners policies usually exclude business activity. If clients visit you or you work at their sites, ask us.
