Coverage owner-operators ask about
Primary liability
Pays for injury and property damage you cause to others while hauling under your own authority.
Physical damage
Covers your own tractor and trailer after a collision, fire or theft.
Motor truck cargo
Covers the freight you haul if it is lost or damaged.
Non-trucking and bobtail
Covers you when you are driving without a trailer or when the truck is not under dispatch.
Your own authority or leased on?
What you need depends on how you operate. If you run under your own MC authority, you are responsible for your own liability coverage. If you lease on to a carrier, the carrier often provides part of the coverage and you may need others. Tell us how you run and we will explain the difference before you buy.
Just getting started?
Most new owner-operators need their USDOT number and MC authority as well as insurance. We can help with both so the paperwork and the coverage line up.
A quote is not coverage. Coverage begins only when confirmed in writing by the insurance company. Availability and pricing depend on the carrier and your situation.
Questions
What does an owner-operator need to start hauling?
Typically a USDOT number, MC authority if you haul regulated freight for hire, a BOC-3 filing, UCR registration and the required insurance. Exact requirements depend on what and where you haul.
Can I get a quote before I have my authority?
Often yes. Call or send the form and tell us where you are in the process. We will explain what is needed and in what order.
