What renters insurance covers
Your belongings
Furniture, clothes, electronics and other personal property after a covered loss such as fire or theft.
Liability
If someone is hurt in your apartment, or you accidentally damage the building or a neighbor’s unit.
Living costs
A place to stay if a covered loss makes your home unlivable.
Who needs it
Colorado law does not require renters insurance, but many landlords and apartment communities do, and they will ask for proof before you move in. Even where it is optional, most renters own more than they think. Add up what it would cost to replace everything in your home at once.
What affects your price
- How much personal property you insure
- The liability limit and deductible you choose
- Your location and building type
- Your claims history
Renters insurance is usually one of the least expensive policies you can buy.
A quote is not coverage. Coverage begins only when confirmed in writing by the insurance company. Availability and pricing depend on the carrier and your situation.
Questions
My landlord needs proof of insurance. How fast can I get it?
Once your policy starts, we can send proof to you and your landlord. Tell us the name and address they want listed.
Does it cover my roommate?
Not automatically. Each person usually needs to be named on a policy or carry their own.
Are my things covered outside my apartment?
Often yes, for example items stolen from your car, subject to limits. Ask us about your policy.
Does it cover expensive items like jewelry or a laptop?
There are limits on some categories. Higher-value items can be added.
Can I combine it with my car insurance?
Often yes, and the discount on your auto policy can offset much of the cost.
