What physical damage covers
Physical damage pays to repair or replace your own tractor and trailer. It usually has two parts.
Collision
Covers damage from a crash or rollover.
Comprehensive
Covers things like fire, theft, vandalism, hail and animal strikes.
Who needs it
No law requires it, but if your truck is financed or leased, the lender almost always does. If you own the truck outright, it is your decision. The question to ask is whether you could replace the truck and keep working if it were totaled tomorrow.
How the value is set
You insure the truck for a stated amount. If that amount is too low, a total loss will not pay enough to replace it. If it is too high, you pay for coverage you cannot collect. We help you set a value that matches what the truck is really worth, including permanently attached equipment.
What affects your price
- The value, age and type of the truck and trailer
- The deductible you choose
- Where the truck is parked and where it runs
- Driving records and claims history
A quote is not coverage. Coverage begins only when confirmed in writing by the insurance company. Availability and pricing depend on the carrier and your situation.
Questions
Does physical damage cover my trailer?
Only if the trailer is listed on the policy. Trailers you pull but do not own may need trailer interchange coverage instead.
Does it cover a breakdown?
No. Mechanical failure and normal wear are not covered. It applies to covered events such as a collision, fire or theft.
What deductible should I pick?
A higher deductible lowers the premium but means more out of pocket after a claim. Choose an amount you could pay without stopping work.
Does it cover my tools and personal items in the cab?
Usually not by default. Ask us about adding coverage for them.
